Global Recycling Day: A Call to Action for a Sustainable Future

The past decade has been the warmest on record, and the climate emergency we face is more pressing than ever. Without immediate and significant action, we will continue to witness devastating consequences: rising temperatures, melting icecaps, and escalating wildfires.

Recycling is a key element of the circular economy, crucial for conserving our planet's resources. Every year, recycling the "Seventh Resource" (recyclables) prevents over 700 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, a figure that is projected to rise to 1 billion tonnes in just five years.

Global Recycling Day: March 18, 2025
Global Recycling Day, observed annually on March 18, carries a powerful mission:

1. To urge world leaders to recognise the climate emergency as a global issue, demanding a unified, global approach to recycling.
2. To encourage individuals around the world to think of resources, not waste, when it comes to the goods we use every day.

Our Commitment at Caledonia Signs

At Caledonia Signs, we are deeply committed to improving our environmental performance. This involves setting clear objectives to reduce energy and water consumption, boosting our reuse and recycling efforts, and enhancing waste management practices.

Over the past decade, we have expanded our range of recyclable materials to provide eco-friendly signage options for our customers. As part of our ongoing efforts, we’ve made it easier for customers to identify recyclable materials. On our website, we've clearly marked recyclable materials by adding the word "Recyclable" at the start of material descriptions. Additionally, we’ve included the appropriate recycling logos on our signage, helping recycling centres efficiently process materials and avoid unnecessary landfill waste.

Eco-Friendly Materials for Sustainable Signage

We are proud to offer a wide selection of environmentally friendly signage materials, giving our customers more sustainable choices than ever before. Here are some of the recyclable materials we use:

Fluted Polypropylene: Lightweight, waterproof, and durable, this material is perfect for temporary signage at construction sites or festivals. Marked with the number 5 and acronym "PP," it is a safer plastic and increasingly accepted in curb side recycling programs.

PET: A durable, impact-resistant material ideal for permanent outdoor installations like bus stops, play areas, and car parks. Marked with the number 1 and acronym "PET," this material is recyclable and widely accepted in curb side recycling programs.

Synthetic Paper: A high-density polyethylene material that is tear, water, and grease resistant. Ideal for vibrant, durable posters, this material is 100% recyclable.

Aluminium / Brass: Excellent for both indoor and outdoor signage, with superior weathering and UV resistance. A long-lasting, sustainable option.

Acrylic: A non-shattering, cast acrylic that resists weathering, discoloration, and chemicals. This high-quality material is fully recyclable.

Going Green with Caledonia Signs

Our dedication to sustainability goes beyond offering eco-friendly materials. We're continually seeking new ways to improve our environmental impact, from sourcing green materials to optimising our production processes. If you have a specific sustainability requirement, let us know. We’re committed to finding the right solution to meet your needs while reducing our collective environmental footprint.

Together, let's make Global Recycling Day a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect the planet for future generations. Every action counts, and at Caledonia Signs, we're proud to be part of the movement toward a more sustainable, circular economy.

New Recycling Legislation – March 31, 2025
We’d also like to take this time to highlight that, starting from 31st March 2025, businesses in England must separate dry mixed recyclables and food waste from general waste, with collection by approved contractors (as outlined under Section 57 – Separation of Waste, the Environment Act 2021). With that in mind, there is no better time to review your current recycling programmes and ensure your signage is up to date and meeting the latest legislative requirements.
