Sign Manufacturer unable to spell Cheshire

Simon Eardley, a councillor has expressed his frustration after new signs were installed with an error.

The new signage were designed to replace existing faded signage which welcomed motorists into the hamlet of Lea-by-Backford. It was with great "frustration" to the councillor that the signs were missing the 'h' from 'Cheshire'.

Mr Eardley, a councillor for Saughall and Mollington, said the proofs for the new signs had been correct when he was shown them.

He told the BBC: "It seems to have been an error that has crept in when the proofs were sent off for manufacturing. It is an unfortunate human error."

The council has requested the correct spelling on the signs as per its original instructions to the manufacturer.

A spokesperson said: "The signs are being remade and will be installed as soon as possible."
